Review: Aerin Rose Balm Lipstick in Coral Sands
Can I just say, I'm really loving the abundance of balm-style lipsticks available now? The gold standard Chantecaille Lip Chic has been joined by such delights as the Rouge Bunny Rouge Colour Burst, MAC Huggables, and Lipstick Queen. So, I saw this Rose Balm Lipstick by Aerin at Nordstrom and decided I needed it right away. The coral color is surprisingly noticeable for such a balmy formula, as you can see in the swatch. Upon testing, I found the lipstick very comfortable to wear and beautiful on the lips. The color really showed through and tinted my lips with a summery coral peach. It does not last long at all, though - and heaven forbid you eat or drink anything, because immediate touch-ups are a must. Still and all, that's a price I'm willing to pay for a moisturizing lip product like this. However, I had reservations from the get-go about the packaging that proved well-founded. It looks expensive and substantial in its textured gold case. The case looks like it should be heavy and functional. It is not. When you pick it up and try to twist the lipstick out of the tube, you quickly realize how flimsy the whole thing is. I had difficulty twisting it up and down - the mechanism was quite sticky. Lo and behold, after about a week it stopped working altogether. A $27 lipstick with a case that breaks after a week? No thanks.
