Review: Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum
A few months back, I read an article in a beauty magazine discussing how to choose the right moisturizer and a very famous NY dermatologist couldn't stop raving about Chanel Hydra Beauty serum. Being a cynic, I looked into whether said dermatologist had any business connections to Chanel, but found nothing - she appeared to be speaking purely on the merits of the product itself. I had never really considered Chanel for skincare. Perfume and makeup, yes, but I kind of assumed the skincare would be overpriced and unimpressive in performance because most designer skincare brand is (looking at you, Dior and YSL). In the market for something new, and trusting in Nordstrom's excellent return policy, I gave it a go. I am so glad I did.
First, let's discuss packaging. It is made of plastic and I kind of wish the bottle were glass, instead, but it does have a fairly luxe feel (for plastic) and the pump is lovely, dispensing just the right amount of product in a smooth motion that portends no future malfunctioning. One pump is enough for my whole face and neck. It has a gel texture that glides easily on and absorbs quickly. You'd think that such a formula would not be moisturizing enough when the weather turned cold and dry, but I am here to say I've been using this for several months through both hot and humid and cold and dry climes and it performs marvelously in both. It gives me moisture that lasts all day but never makes my face greasy. I can't say I've seen any changes to skin tone or texture using this, but then again it's not really supposed to do that for you since it doesn't contain any actives. Yes, it is pricey - $110 is nothing to sneeze at. I do think it will last me at least six months, though, based on my rate of usage, and it's important to keep in mind that a little of this goes a very long way. For me: worth it.
