Review: Aveda Brilliant Pomades
I have curly hair which I occasionally like to wear straight. This generally means I have a surfeit of hair products because heaven forbid I find a single product suitable for both textures. The Aveda Brilliant pomades are very helpful to me because they are compact, a little goes a long way, and not terribly expensive. They also smell A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. There are two versions: humectant and anti-humectant. Basically, one draws moisture into your hair and the other keeps moisture out. When I'm wearing my hair curly, I use the humectant pomade. It is excellent at providing soft hold and keeping frizzies at bay. When I wear my hair straight, I want to keep moisture OUT of my hair, because that is what makes it want to curl up again. So the anti-humectant pomade is my BFF on those occasions. I will say, a little goes a VERY long way with the anti-humectant - start with a tiny amount and then take about half that. Otherwise, it can make your hair look a bit greasy and flat. But used in moderation, it is outstanding and keeping my hair straight and sleek - no flyaways.
